Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division; for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.
Families are divided because of Jesus, the Lord himself prophesied that. Today we can see very clearly: some family members believe in Him, while others cling to human tradition, seeking wrong spiritual alternatives or do not believe in anything.
The Word of God is absolute Truth, which makes all different opinion becomes false. However God does not force us to believe His truth because he has given us freedom to decide to believe Him or not. Most people, especially in the age in which we live, clings to its relative truth and some go so far to challenge even God himself and question His existence.
On the other hand, there is a range of beliefs based on human philosophies, which each have their own share of followers, both politically, and in sports and religion. Therefore it is common to see that the father is conservative, the mother is moderate and the son is liberal. Or that every member of the family is a fan of different sports teams. In religion it is the same, some cling to the traditions and others have known the Truth through a personal encounter with Jesus Christ.
I do not know what your case, but when I became to Jesus Christ, my family and my friends were against me. Many saw me as a freak because I had abandoned traditional beliefs I had been taught since childhood. It was a very tough process at first because family and social pressure was very strong. However, I persevered in my faith and gradually; the wall of rejection was falling.
Something very strange happened when someone who made fun of me for being a Christian had some sort of problem, because they called me to pray for them. I did gladly. But when I said that God heard my prayers, I told them that they had the same opportunity to approach God with confidence and if permitted I could tell them how to do it. Over time, most of my friends and members of my family have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior and that gives me peace of mind that my loved ones and I will see the faces in eternity.
If you’re going through a time of family rejection by your conversion to Jesus Christ, do not let your faith waver for it. Stand firm in the knowledge of the Truth and constantly pray for those who remain in the darkness of human traditions. Do not contend with them and help them in their spiritual needs, because it is not you but God himself through the Holy Spirit who will give them conviction of sin and lead them to repentance. God bless you.
