Divine Protection

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.

Isaiah 43:2

Humankind has always felt concern for personal safety. Since ancient times, the soldiers went to war protected by armor. In that protective gear the breastplate, shield and helmet were included. Today soldiers still continue protecting and wear helmets and body armor. Spiritually, God promises to protect us from the visible and the invisible.

My career involves many risks. When working in a laboratory with flammable, explosive or toxic substances you must use good safety equipment. You do need a gown for routine tasks; but in case of increased risk, the use of special clothing is required including masks and even working under a controlled atmosphere. When working in a process plant you must wear a safety helmet and boots with steel toes.

I have seen the hand of God protecting me from danger through more than three decades of professional experience. Once I was at my workbench and one of my classmates began to distill ether under a fume hood just behind me. She began to operate the distillation system a few minutes before going to lunch and then we all left. When we got back we realized that there had been an explosion whose blast blew the steel door of the adjoining laboratory located more than 30 feet away.

I could have died because the explosion occurred less than 3 feet from where I would be working. Although by that time I was living my life back to God, He took care of me because He loved me before I was born. I have lived many evidence of divine protection. God has delivered me from death in accidents, attacks, natural disasters and disease among others, not once but many times.

In the book of Daniel is told the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who were delivered by God to die within a furnace. In them the divine promise was fulfilled Isaiah 43:2 for they passed through fire without burning and without the flame scorched them. The people of Israel passed twice through the water without overflow. First when they crossed the Red Sea fleeing Pharaoh. There the Lord glorified destroying the powerful enemy of His people. The second time the Israelites passed through the water without overflow was when they crossed the Jordan to conquer the Promised Land.

Do not think that the miracle of God’s protection is limited to those biblical giants like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Surely He does not intend that the fire destroys you. There is an eternal lake of fire which the Lord would deliver you and for that He sent His Son to die on a cross so that these flames do not reach you. Just repent of all your sins and give your life to Jesus Christ. Thus, you will be protected forever enjoying His personal care. God bless you.
