The Peace of God, the Antidote of Eagerness

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;  and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

Modern life leads to a very fast pace. The search for goals and results forced us to walk most of the time with our tongue out. The urge has become the daily bread. As a result, risk of developing certain stress-related diseases has increased. For people without a relationship with God, walking eager to social and work pressure may be the only option. However, God’s children have a hope to fight the eagerness.

An additional reason that drives people to live in the rush is to save face. Thus, many people are working in more than one job just to achieve income to show a high status. So they have to run around from one place to another and have no time for anything. Others are not lucky enough to have income that guarantee the desired status; but they try to save face by denying that they are going through difficulties.

For me, more important than saving my own image is to exalt and give glory to God who guides me and holds in the midst of trials. Therefore, I will share my testimony. Until April 2010 I had a very well paid job in a pharmaceutical company. After losing my job, I have not had another and many of my business initiatives have only been losses. Moreover, since 2007, home prices in the US plummeted and my home dropped to half of what it cost me when I bought it in 2005. As a result, I have also been under the threat of foreclosure.

Besides my financial difficulties in recent years I have suffered from problems with my health and my kids have also been affected by different diseases. I cannot deny that I additionally had problems in my family and personal relationships, which could be a result of other problems. Now if you ask me if I’m worried or eager for everything I had to face, my answer would be No. I learned to present my requests in prayer to the Lord and He answered me with His peace.

I know there are people who think that if they do not strive and struggle will achieve nothing and believe that if they do not be acting negligently. There are also those who falsely believe that the Bible has a verse saying, God said I will help if you help yourself. The truth is that several biblical passages speak against the eagerness, among them Matthew 6:27: Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

So, if you who hear or read this message eager litter for your problems, make a stop on your way, pray to your Heavenly Father submitting your requests, trust Him and expects His response, which will give you a peace the world cannot understand. So your heart and your thoughts will be subject to Christ Jesus. God bless you.
