Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
Feeling alone is not pleasant, especially when there is a latent danger. In such a situation, it is very likely to feel fear. And when fear grips us, our forces decay and we feel powerless. It happens in some situations where we feel that even our best friends leave us. But God never abandons us and He is always with us. The faithfulness of God is infinite and passes all tests.
If it’s just unpleasant feeling alone, when we know that we have someone in our difficult times we are fully confident. The story I tell you here is real and it shows the loyalty of friendship in two ways. In April 1999, I was in a big rush for a trip I had to do and which I did not have enough resources to afford it. I was in line at the bank trying to catch up on my credit card and thus have some relief.
While waiting for my turn at the bank, I received a call from my best friend saying that his wife had died in another country. My bank where was just a few blocks from the work of my friend, so I left everything behind and I met with my friend. I was with him until he could finally take a plane that night to go where his wife had died. The next day I went on a trip without money; but really I did not feel the need because I could miraculously cover all my expenses.
But the best part of the story does not end there. A couple of years later my life changed dramatically. I was obliged to go and my relationship broke down, leaving my younger son, who was about to turn 9 years. My best friend has covered my back since then. He has been watching everything that happened to my son, to the point that not only the child, but my other children refer to him as uncle. I have no words to express my gratitude to my friend for his loyalty, dedication and love for my son.
It is likely that not everyone has the good fortune I’ve had with this great friend, which is more than a brother to me. What I am sure of is that we all have the opportunity to have the unconditional friendship of God. The Bible says in James 2:23: And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness”. And he was called the friend of God. Abraham’s faith made him a friend of God.
And that great friend called God, as we have seen in Isaiah 41:10, invites us to let out fear because He is with us. Knowing that He is our God allows us to remain undismayed because He gives us strength. He’s going to help us at all times. Nothing will miss us because our sustenance comes from Him and not from the things we see, which are always uncertain. No matter the situation that you’re going, put all your faith and trust in the Lord because He is the one who will give up and never fail you nor forsake you. God bless you.
