Then Joseph gave a command to fill their sacks with grain, to restore every man’s money to his sack, and to give them provisions for the journey. Thus he did for them.
When Jacob’s sons went to Egypt to stock up on food during the lean years, his brother Joseph, who was the administrator of the country, ordered to give them provision for the way. Clearly, the traveler needs food and water for his or her journey to maintain his or her health and well-being along the way. In our Christian walk we will need spiritual food and water so we do not lose heart but to stand firm to reach the goal.
As we feed our bodies, we need to feed our spirit with the bread of life, as John 6:35 says: And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. Jesus Christ offered Himself as the Lamb slain in substitution for our offenses and sins. He is our spiritual food, He is our livelihood.
And as we quench our thirst body with fresh water, we must quench our spiritual thirst with the living water that gives us our Lord Jesus Christ, according to what is written in John 4:14: but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life. We receive the living water that quenches thirst forever and we can only receive from the hands of our Lord.
Jesus also said in John 6:54-56: Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. Seek Him, who is the best provision available for our journey through life.
I’ll ask you something; do you have enough supplies of food and water for your journey from this life that you know to what comes next? Are you quite sure that when you leave this world you will not go hungry or thirsty? Think for a moment before answering my questions. In this world we can live several decades, but the time to elapse after our departure has no limit. Therefore, the road is long and the journey will require going prepared to be free from hunger and thirst.
Both earthly food and water that we know are useless for walking in eternity. Indeed, nothing in this world that we can take with us when we die. There is only one way to stock up for the long way that every human being undoubtedly undertaken. Our source of life bread and water of eternal life is called Jesus Christ. It is not a chance that you are hearing or reading this message today. God is calling you to decide to stock up for eternity. Get right with Him and receive the water of life and the bread of your salvation today. God bless you.
