Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.”
The traveler has always latent dangers occurrence during his way to his final destination. In modern times, traveling by car is the most often form used to move from one place to another. Think of anything that may be exposed a traveler: accidents, assaults, rain, snow, landslides, blocked roads with traffic delays, detours, etc. In biblical times there was no car and transportation were animals like the horse, donkey and camel or simply use the famous human car, “for a while to own two feet”.
In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus tells a parable describing the dangers suffered by a Jewish traveler in his way. Daily, in many places around the world like this happen and sometimes the victim does not live to tell the tale. Such kind of news is reported on newspapers, radio and television networks to feed morbidity of a decadent world.
In our spiritual journey we have similar dangers, which we had already warned the Lord in John 10:10: The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. This thief is fully identified in the Bible, which also indicates which aims to steal this thing thief, as we read in Luke 8:12: Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
Do not keep allowing the thief rob you tricked the word of salvation, which makes the difference between having eternal life or eternal punishment. Certainly you should walk vigilant at all times, as advised the Word in 1 Peter 5:8: Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
But we must also recognize that the devil is not invincible. If we hold to God, he will flee from us, as James 4:7 tells us: Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Whenever the devil wants to remember your past to you, remind his future to him: The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever (Revelation 20:10).
We cannot deny that we will have to deal with dangers in our paths. Becoming Christians and accepting Jesus Christ is not a vaccine against the problems. Who tell you such a thing is preaching a false gospel. It is written in John 16:33: These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” No danger we face in our way can defeat the King of kings and Lord of lords. God bless you.
