But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
There are many people who strive to “win” the heaven. These people strive to be good and do good works convinced that is the way to obtain the salvation of their souls. Unfortunately the efforts made are useless because no human work is valuable enough to pay the price of salvation. It is totally impossible to accumulate enough merit to attain eternal life. Therefore, those who claim to be good effort trying to please God are exposing to not be saved.
No matter how fair we create our works, in the eyes of God are worthless. Isaiah 64:6 says: But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; we all fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. No matter all the good we believe to be doing, anything we do not pass the test before God. You could say that our “good works” are a waste. And if we thought to use them to save us, Scripture makes it clear that no use for that.
The apostle Paul says in Ephesians 2:8-9: For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. It is clear therefore that salvation is by grace, it is a gift of God and our good works contribute nothing to achieve it. Paul gives the reason is that no one give himself the glory that has been saved on merit, but who receive all the glory for our salvation are God and His Son Jesus Christ who died for us.
God will not share His glory with anyone else. Isaiah 48:11 says: For My own sake, for My own sake, I will do it; for how should My name be profaned? And I will not give My glory to another. Therefore, only love and mercy of God give us the opportunity to obtain salvation. It is a wonderful gift we do not deserve and which is impossible to win by what we do.
Upon hearing this message, you may be thinking I’m wrong or I exaggerate. It is likely to think that there exist good people in the world who could earn heaven. And you can say that you would wish to be one of those saintly people who now occupy the altars of some churches because they themselves have been good and are now in heaven. So you say you have hope. I regret to say I do think that you’re exposing not be achieved by the grace of God. Not because I say so, but because God has said in His Word. Our works are useless to save and only through Jesus Christ we have that option. Believe on Him today and have eternal life. God bless you.
