Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal truthfully are His delight.
There are cultures in which lying is the national sport. In these peoples, nobody looks bad you overdo it, the word is breached or that blatantly lie. Everyone feels good people because they only say only white lies. And for them, that’s not bad. Now, what does God think? Proverbs 12:22 is emphatic when it says: Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord. This is equivalent to saying that God hates lying.
In my neighborhood I had a friend named Carlitos who was extremely liar. He is my age and we grew up together because his house and mine were very close. Furthermore we started together at school and, although later studied in different educational institutions we were at the same level until Carlitos repeated for four years one and considerably delayed about me. But that never took our friendship continued and we shared many adventures together.
Every time I went out with Carlitos I had to witness the many lies he said. When I finished high school and was about to enter college, he said to the people that he was in the same situation as me, even though he had just surpassed the four years to the same course. While studying engineering, he said he was also studying the same thing at the same university as me. The reality was that he needed several years to enter university.
For years I had to keep from laughing and ashamed of lies that brazenly he had in front of me to others. However, he spoke frankly to me until one day he came with one of his lies. I immediately confronted him and told him how he dare lie considering the liar I knew what he was. His answer astonished me: “I know you were not going to believe this, but you must understand that I need to practice. When I find nobody who to lie, I stand before a mirror and I lie to myself.”
Carlitos is not the only compulsive liar I’ve ever met in my life. But there are also many people who are responsible for speaking what is not true to others without their consciences pricked. Our Lord identifies the author of all lies in John 8:44: You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.
It is clear therefore that who lies becomes a child of the father of lies, that is, the devil in person. Olympian practice lying is an instrument of the enemy because all lies come from him. There are not white lies. Every lie is just as serious and is an abomination before God in the same way that the father of the lie is himself an abomination.
Today I invite you to do a self-analysis and see if the lie is part of your life. If you usually promise and not fulfill, that is lying, like telling others they say you’re not. Stop completely this practice, if it is your custom to do so. Get right with God and stop being the son of the father of lies and become a child of Heavenly Father because for him those who deal truthfully are His delight. God bless you.
