God’s Patience

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9

If the second coming of Jesus Christ to Earth has not materialized yet it is because God wants to give the opportunity to every human being to have repentance of their sins. The patience of God is because His greatest wish is to prevent any man or woman perishes for not having been reached by grace. The day of the Lord will come, no doubt, and no one knows when that will be, only the Father. But we must be prepared for when that happens because there will be no warning.

In modern times, mankind has endeavored to move farther and farther from God. For decades we’ve been telling God to get out of our lives. It prevents pray or read the Bible in schools. It teaches children from an early age to not honor or respect their parents but to report them to the police if corrected for misbehavior. Pornography, free sex, same-sex marriage and abortion are promoted, while prohibiting mentioning the name of Jesus.

Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in the United States, Anne Graham, daughter of respected American evangelist Billy Graham was interviewed by Jane Clayson on the Early Show. When she was asked how could God let this happen? Anne Graham said among other things that: “It’s funny how people just send God away them and then wonder why the world is in the process of destruction.”

And Anne Graham continued: “Funny how we believe what the newspapers and television say, but question what God says in His Word, the Bible. It is interesting to see how there lustful, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace. But the conversation with God in public is suppressed in schools, workplaces and sometimes in the home. Funny how we more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.”

And while we are every day by closing the door on God’s nose, He’s waiting patiently that we put our feet on the ground and realize our true condition. The major problems facing mankind are not God’s fault but our own tendency to prefer sin rather than follow the instructions of our Creator. What God expects of us is that we recognize that we are very wrong and repent of our sins.

Not justifying our deviant behavior that we will receive mercy and forgiveness from God. It is time we stopped being mocking God, pretending that as He is love, He will overlook all our wickedness without we move a finger. Repentance does not mean abusing the patience of God and continue our life of sin. What we should do is take a 180 degree turn and change direction.

God has been very patient with mankind, but how much more will endure His patience? The flood, Sodom and Gomorrah remind us that there is a limit. It is better to regret in time to provoke His wrath. The day for salvation is today. God bless you.
