Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Timothy 2:15
Who has studied some career he knows that to approve the different subjects he should study enough to achieve the necessary grades to pass. When you do not have the proper preparation, you run the risk of not being approved. When one fails in a course, it is very natural to feel shame. When it comes to serving God, we cannot improvise. We must also study! The big advantage is that all we need to know about God is in one place, the Bible, which is the true textbook, what Paul calls the word of truth.
In my 10 years I went to study at the best school in my hometown. There I met Hannibal who was the best student of the classroom. Hannibal is perhaps the oldest friend I have. We graduated together from high school and went to the same university to study the same career, chemical engineering. Up to half of our studies everything was fine; but Hannibal, for the first time in his life flunked Physics II and that shamed him to the point that he left the career, he changed his college and finished graduating in quite another different area. I know that Hannibal was able to overcome that obstacle if it had not been for the shame he felt at being disproved in the course of Physics II.
When I met the Lord, almost immediately I felt the desire to serve. I soon realized that it was necessary to be prepared for that responsibility. So when I gathered the church where it opened its Bible school, I was the first to enroll. The day of our graduation, which I got the first place, I sang a song composed by me whose title is the same as the message today. The chorus of the song says. “Be diligent to present yourself to God as a workman approved and not feel ashamed to accurately handle the Word of truth, to accurately handle the word of truth.” Obviously my song is based on 2 Timothy 2:15.
The domain of the Word is vital in order to be efficient serving God. We cannot forget that the enemy knows it very well and often he used it out of context to try to deceive. In Matthew 4:5-6 we read: Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.’”
Who does not know how to use properly the Word of God it could be mistaken by the enemy and false teachers. The servants of Jesus Christ are required to act diligently in the pursuit of truth contained in Scripture. That is an important part of our approval as workers of the Kingdom. If we do not fully know God’s instructions, our work for the Kingdom would be mediocre. God requires that we work with excellence for Him.
It is therefore totally unacceptable to pretend that we serve God while neglecting the study of the Word. And although it is not necessary for every Christian to go through a seminary or Bible college, as I said earlier, the Bible is the essential textbook to study God’s Word. Let us try to read it every day because only then we will see revealed the mysteries of our Heavenly Father. God bless you.
