What Comes of the World

For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.

1 John 2:16

Many people think that comes into this world to live and enjoy life the way they please. I’ve heard people say that the only thing one gets to die is what has enjoyed. Therefore, these people are more concerned about satisfying their desires and enjoy the most that seek God. But 1 John 2:16 says that such desires of the flesh or eyes is not of God but of the world. And knowing that the world is under the evil, such desires are opposed to God.

We are being bombarded daily by advertising that incites the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. Television, cinema, the Internet and advertising to the side of the road billboards promote the products they sell using all those things that come from the world and not of the Father. It is very often used to advertise beautiful models from auto brands to drugs for sexual dysfunction. The most beautiful places are presented, more luxurious and fun life only in order to capture the attention of potential customer.

The result of mundane advertising is attached to consumerism society. Many people live more aware of being fashionable or release the latest technology on the market that thinking about their eternal destiny. The downside of all this is that everything we see is perishable and ephemeral. It is written in Mark 13:31: Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. The only constant is the Word of God, which we have written in the Bible, the quintessential instruction manual for this life and the future.

Like commercial advertising, music has been used to convey the desire to live according to the world and not according to God’s plan. Thousands of songs have been written praising that kind of life. I’ll just mention a few examples here. If someone wants to check what they say such songs, I suggest you look for its letters or lyrics on the Internet where you can find easily. You can find the songs “My Way” by Frank Sinatra, “Livin La Vida Loca” by Ricky Martin, “Life is a Carnival” by Celia Cruz and “Living My Life” by Marc Anthony.

James 4:4 tells us that the things of God are incompatible with those of world: Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. When we delight with the desires of the flesh, the lust of the eyes or the vainglory of life, we are being dragged by the current of the world, which is dominated by the evil. That’s why we became the enemy of God because we are establishing a covenant with the commander in chief of the enemies of God, the devil.

Let us reflect for a moment if we are living our crazy life in our own way because we consider it a carnival. In case you did not know, the carnival is a celebration of pagan origin in which at the end is worshiping the devil and his demons. So live your life like a carnival is to live worshiping the prince of this world instead of worshiping the true God. I urge you to make a stop along the way, discusses how you’re living your life, you think that can happen when you are finished if you continue down that road, then put right with your Creator. God bless you.
