Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Luke 10:19 says what is both an endowment and a guarantee: Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.. The Lord Jesus endows His servants with power and authority to confront the forces of evil and defeat them. The guarantee we have is that those forces of evil will not be able to harm us. Having the full support of him who has conquered death, sin and the devil will not fear to be injured or destroyed in our daily battle against spiritual wickedness.
Recently was published the news that a US company was making a special armored suit to be worn by soldiers in the near future. The design of this battle dress is inspired by the science fiction movie Star Wars. The whole suit is bulletproof and includes a shielded viewer also shielded material which allows the soldier be sure to venture into enemy camp with the certainty that nothing will harm helmet. The motivation of this futuristic invention is to minimize casualties in the army during the war.
When the Lord says that nothing will harm us it is because it has provided us with an armored able to protect the enemy suit. That armored suit is nothing but the armor of God which the Apostle Paul speaks in Ephesians 6:13-17: Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
The components of our suit of armor, armor of God, include: truth, justice, peace, faith, salvation and the Word of God. The truth is Jesus Christ, according to John 14:6, when we know who makes us free, according to John 8:32. Through the same Lord Jesus we are made the righteousness of God, as Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:21: For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Before leaving the Father, Jesus left us His peace, as John 14:27 says: Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. The peace that He gives us allows us to stay calm in the midst of trials. Philippians 4:7 says: and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
We live by faith, precisely through faith in Jesus Christ, we obtain salvation. Meanwhile, the Word of God is both a defensive weapon as offensive keeps us strong and protected from enemy attacks. Let us walk with our spiritual armor protected, aware that nothing will harm us. God bless you.
