Authority over the Nations

The one who is victorious and keeps My works to the end: I will give him authority over the nations, and he will shepherd them with an iron scepter; he will shatter them like pottery, just as I have received this from My Father. I will also give him the morning star.

Revelation 2:26-28

The coming of Jesus Christ will bring many promises to those who persevere in faith until the end. One of these promises is in the message to the church of Thyatira: I will give him authority over the nations. Christ will not return as a lamb slain, as a victim, but with glory and power, as King of kings and Lord of lords. He will return in majesty and, as absolute King, He has the power to delegate authority over whomever He pleases. And in the exercise of His royalty, the Lord will give authority over the nations to His faithful.

The words of the Lord must be highlighted in verse 27 of the second chapter of Revelation: as I have received this from My Father. Such a statement comes from what is written in Psalm 2:7-9, “I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession. You shall break[a] them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’” The authority that the Son received from the Father will pass to the one who overcomes and keeps His works to the end.

The Bible always confirms its great truths in different books. The authority of Jesus that He received from His Father is one of them. That divine paternal-filial relationship is also mentioned in Hebrews 1:5, For to which of the angels did He ever say: “You are My Son, Today I have begotten You”? And again: “I will be to Him a Father, and He shall be to Me a Son”? Therefore, there is no place to doubt that, at His return, Jesus Christ is invested with power and authority to rule over the nations of the earth, which He inherited from His Father.

On earth, nations are headed by a Head of State, who can be called king or president, depending on whether it is a monarchy or a republic. But in addition to the Head of State, many countries have a Head of Government, who can be called Prime Minister or President of the Government. In addition, the Head of Government has under his command the ministers of the different governmental agencies, who assist them in their areas of responsibility, such as education, defense, foreign affairs, etc.

Revelation 1:5-6 gives us an idea of how the earth will be ruled upon the return of the King of kings and Lord of lords, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Revelation 5:10 confirms that we will reign with Him, And have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth.

It is an honorable privilege to be part of the cabinet of Jesus Christ when He returns to reign on earth. Now let us remember what the requirement is: The one who is victorious and keeps My works to the end. We must remain constant and firm, always faithful to our Lord and King, Jesus Christ, until the last day of our lives or until His triumphant return. Let us not lose our reward, our position in His government, by deviating from the path. Let us keep walking from His hand because He has promised to give us authority over the nations. God bless you.
