Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’” And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.”
A fundamental event will occur when our Lord returns. The Bible has called this event the Marriage of the Lamb. And in Revelation 19:9 we see a categorical affirmation: Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb! And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.” The issue is not whether this wedding will happen or not, that is already a fact confirmed by God. We do not know when it will be, but the truth is that every day that passes, is closer. I want to be among the called, do you want it?
Weddings are acts that one would like to be unique in life. Generally, a wedding involves a period of preparation until the big day arrives. Sometimes, wedding preparation is left in the hands of professional wedding planners, who take care of every detail to make it an unforgettable day. Both the groom and the bride make an effort to dress their best gowns for their wedding day. Both the place where the ceremony will be held and the place for the reception are decorated appropriately for the occasion.
An important detail in each wedding is the selection of those who will be invited to it. A wedding is not a social event open to everyone, but the bride and groom choose who to invite and who to not. Generally, those who participate in the wedding receive a very fine invitation card, which also gives indications about the required clothing, time, place and the way in which the gifts are accepted. Guests are expected to follow the instructions given on the card in order to enjoy the privilege of being present at the wedding.
No earthly marriage will be more important than the coming spiritual wedding. Being invited to the Marriage of the Lamb is the greatest privilege we can have in life, it is not in vain that Revelation 19: 9 says: Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb! What a great honor! What an honorable distinction! It’s something I do not want to miss for the world. And to be honest, I would like to spend the rest of my life to be properly prepared for that great day.
Of course, to be in the Marriage of the Lamb, we cannot go dressed in jean and T-shirt, but with all the gala appropriate for that purpose. Matthew 22:11-14 says, “But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ “For many are called, but few are chosen.”
We receive the invitation to the marriage of the Lamb as part of the family of God accepting the gift of grace and making Jesus Christ as our Lord. From then on comes the process of getting ready to be present at the wedding. Let us wash our clothes in the precious blood of the Lamb so that they are pure and white, worthy of the great wedding. Let us keep a life of holiness until He comes. May it not happen to us like that man described in Matthew 22, who did not dress properly for the wedding. It would be very painful to have been called and that, in the end, we should not be among the chosen ones and be cast into darkness. God bless you.
