And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.”
It is said that water is life and, indeed, life on earth is impossible without water. Both humans, animals and plants would die without remedy for lack of water. Our planet has a greater surface area covered with water than the emerged lands. However, only a small fraction of that water is potentially usable. In Revelation 21:6, the Lord gives the beautiful promise to give freely to the one who is thirsty for the source of the water of life. We are not talking about any water, but the best water in the universe.
The Amazon River is the largest river in the world. It contains more water than the Nile, the Yangtze, and the Mississippi together. The Amazon, which has the largest hydrographic basin in the world, around 2.8 million square miles, represents approximately one-fifth of the total river flow in the world. In 2010 it was also confirmed that it is also the longest river in the world, with a length of 4414 miles since its birth in the Quebrada de Apacheta, region of Arequipa, Peru.
The highest and distant source of the Amazon has been located in the Cordillera Chila, in the foothills of the Nevado Mismi, in Arequipa, Peru. Since its birth in the Apacheta ravine, on the slopes of the Quehuisha Nevado, in the department of Arequipa, at 16800 feet above sea level, until its opening in the Atlantic after crossing Peru, Colombia and Brazil, reaches a length of 4414 miles. The Amazon Basin covers nine countries in South America: Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, French Guiana, and Suriname.
Up to the Amazon, the longest and mighty river on earth has a source, an origin. I do not doubt that the purity of the waters that flow from the slopes of the Quehuisha Nevado and that form the Apacheta stream is much superior to the waters at the mouth of this river in the Atlantic Ocean. Anyone would trust the water of the ravine; but he might fear taking the waters of the mouth, which has traveled thousands of miles, received hundreds of tributaries and crossed by numerous populations that contaminate them.
But the Lord does not offer us contaminated water, but one that comes from the same source, a water similar, in essence, to that of the Apacheta stream; But of a supernatural origin. Revelation 22:1 shows us the origin, the source of the water of life, And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. The water of life does not come from a mountain of the earth like the Quehuisha Nevado, but from the same throne of God and His Son, who sits at His right hand.
If we are thirsty, let us seek the best water, the water of life; but let us not look for it when the flow has been contaminated by human works, as it is with the rivers to which we often throw garbage that soils its waters. Let us seek the water of life at its origin. Jeremiah 2:13 says, For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water. God Himself is the source of living water, the crystalline spring of the water of life which He wants to give us free of charge to quench our thirst. Let’s stop making broken cisterns! God bless you.
