Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father.
There are many people who cling to this world without taking into account that it is bad. And it happened as if masochism was an innate condition in the human being. Let us not blame God for natural disasters, wars, social inequalities, disease or poverty. All these evils do not come from God but from the perverse world in which we live. And while many claim to God to change things to continue enjoying this “wonderful” world, our Father has the will to free us from the present evil century.
Natural disasters are occurring all over the world. Only in the present twenty-first century, the list is long. Earthquakes and tsunamis have taken hundreds of thousands of human lives, among the most devastating are: Iran (2003), Indonesia (2004), India (2005), Peru (2007), China (2008), Haiti (2010), Chile (2010), Japan (2011 and 2016), Nepal (2015), Papua New Guinea (2015), Italy (2016), and Ecuador (2016). Numerous volcanoes have erupted in this century in countries like Chile, Nicaragua and Mexico, among others.
In the same way, cyclones and hurricanes have killed thousands of people: Ivan and Jeanne in 2004, Katrina, Ismael, Stan and Wilma in 2005, Dean in 2007, Felix, Nargis and Gustav in 2008, and Irene in 2011. Floods have affected also different points of the earth in the present century, such as the Mexican states of Tabasco and Chiapas in 2007, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2010, Peru and Colombia en 2017. The heat waves of Europe in 2003 and Russia in 2010 killed almost 100 thousand people.
You could tell me that these are just natural manifestations that do not show that there is evil in the world. Well, what about wars? There has not been a day of this century without warfare anywhere on the planet. And if conventional wars were not enough, terrorist attacks are now becoming more frequent. Terrorism has killed on the streets of New York, Moscow, Madrid, London, Bombay, Norway, Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Nigeria, Brussels, Paris and Indonesia, just to name a few.
On the other hand, Central American gangs are responsible for thousands of victims each year. In Mexico, the war between drug cartels has added dozens of deaths, many of them dismembered mercilessly. In Mexico itself, in 2014, 43 students disappeared without a trace. Islamic extremists in Iraq, Syria, and Nigeria are accustomed to flaunt cruelty by beheading, crucifying or burning their victims alive. In the United States, shootings in schools, universities and shopping centers often occur.
What other evils affect this world? The poorest countries suffer from drought, famine and many diseases that decimate the population. Global warming caused by human activity has resulted in irreversible climate change, which is responsible for worse rains, droughts, forest fires, tornadoes, snowfalls and hot flashes. Do you still think we should cling to such a world? The earth is cursed by sin, and God desires to deliver us from all that. It is better for us to accept His plan and trust Him. God bless you.
