For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation.
Jesus Christ has the power to transform us when we give him our heart. No matter what we have been before surrendering to the Lord, from that moment forward, we become a new creation. Circumcision, that is, dependence on Law or uncircumcision, dependence on worldly customs, ceases to be important because we have become new creatures, we have been born again.
It is interesting the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus found in John 3:1-7, There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’
It is impossible to apply human logic to the things of God. While it is true that our Lord used known earthly comparisons to explain the Kingdom of God in a simple way, that does not mean that with our own reasoning we will find the right understanding of divine things. Remember what Isaiah 55:8-9 says, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”
To be born again to see the Kingdom of God does not mean that we will enter again into our mother’s womb. The new birth is a step of faith, it is a renunciation of our sinful past to give way to the direction of the Spirit of God over our lives. That is only achieved when we surrender our life to Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
He who walks in Christ has left behind all the old things, his past is behind and God has already forgotten the sins of that person and cast them into the depths of the sea. For God, there is no difference between great and small sin, because every violation of His Law is just as serious. A murderer, a rapist, a terrorist or a sorcerer who has repented and confessed before God their sins are no less worthy of forgiveness than someone who only said white lies.
Every repentant sinner has washed his transgressions with the precious blood of the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. It is no longer that man or woman who lived with her back to God, now is a new creation. His works condemned him; but the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross gave him the opportunity, by faith, to be born again of the water and the Spirit. God bless you.
