Spiritual Blessings in Christ

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him.

Ephesians 1:3-10

There are people who come to the feet of Christ with the firm belief that they will solve their problems automatically. In part, it is not that these people have always had that belief all the time, but some people preach a gospel of happiness that draws them to that error. Those who seek happiness long for blessings in the present time. They are not interested in future blessings. However, the spiritual blessings in Christ are truly important because everything else is temporary.

Let’s review the spiritual blessings that Paul speaks of in Ephesians 1:3-10. First it says that God blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. When the Bible says everything is everything, which means there will not be a single spiritual blessing without our possession and all of them will be in heaven. Matthew 6:19-20 says, Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

All our spiritual blessings in Christ will be secured in the best protected bank that exists, the heavenly bank, no thief will touch our blessings, our treasures that we have in heaven. If we conform to earthly blessings, they are subject to loss due to deterioration or theft. A second blessing says that God chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him. God has chosen us beforehand to be holy and without blemish, that is, pure before Him.

And if it were little to be chosen to be holy and without blemish, he also predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will. It was the will of God to predestinate us to become his children through Jesus Christ. In John 1:12-13 it says, But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

In addition, He made us accepted in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, having made known to us the mystery of His will. All these spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus are invaluable, their value is really incalculable. Everything we have seen and desired in this world falls short of its immense wealth. God bless you.
