The Inheritance of the Saints in Light

Strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.

Colossians 1:11-13

Who would not be happy to receive the news that a distant uncle has left a voluminous inheritance? I’m sure most people would shout for joy at such an announcement. And any earthly inheritance is of the lowest value compared to the inheritances that we have trusted in the Lord. Here is another inheritance that our Heavenly Father promises us: He has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.

Things in this life could go wrong; but we will always have a great reason to feel joy for what God has done in our lives. Colossians 1:13 tells us this great reason: He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love. No doubt we were in darkness and God sent us the light. Isaiah 9:2 says, The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.

The great light we saw is called Jesus Christ, the light of the world, as John 8:12 says, Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” When we lived apart from God and following the current of the world, we were like spiritual blind. Our life was dark, as if we were walking through a dark cave. The light appeared when we repented and gave our life to Jesus Christ, He, as light that is, opened our eyes.

To come out of the darkness it is necessary to believe in Jesus Christ. John 12:46 says, I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness. The first coming of our Lord to the world was to rescue us from the darkness of sin, from the filth in which we had lived and give us the opportunity to reach the admirable light that is Him. Believing in Him who gave His life for us, we will have Eternal life, as John 3:16 says. Receiving Jesus makes us children of God, as John 1:12 says.

Having eternal life and being a son or daughter of God brings with it many additional benefits. It is to leave the devil’s clutches to fall into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father. That is God’s desire for every human being. Acts 26:18 says, to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me. The inheritance of the saints in light is part of the package that comes with our redemption.

What is this inheritance of saints in light? Let us see what 1 Peter 2:9-10 tells us, But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy. We are not anything, let us live, therefore, grateful to be called saints in light. God bless you.
