God’s love

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.

1 John 4:7

The word love is on the lips of everyone. But most people do not know the true meaning of love. So they call today to make love to have sex with anyone regardless of whether or not true love. It is also common to hear someone else call you “my love” sometimes without even knowing well. To understand what really love is, we must first know God because love proceeds from Him.

The best way to learn about the love of God is reading Scripture. The best known verse in the Bible, John 3:16 tells us: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. The ability to love of God has no limits. Giving His own Son to pay for the guilt of all humanity is the greatest display of His love.

God has given His love although we did not deserve it. Romans 5:8 says: But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. The sinner is offending God and there is not a single human being that can say he has not sinned. Therefore, the death of Jesus Christ was to replace every man and woman born on Earth. No one can feel innocent of the blood of Christ, which was shed to pay the price for our salvation.

And through Jesus Christ, God gives us the opportunity to be part of His family. 1 John 3:1 says: Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. And John 1:12 says: But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name. The greatness of the love of God is revealed to adopt us as His children only by believing and receiving His Son.

And as His children, God teaches us His love for each of us and pours into our hearts. Romans 5:5 says: Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. The Spirit of God dwells in each of His children. That gives us the capacity to love in the same way that God loves unconditionally, in complete surrender.

1 John 4:8 says: He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. If we are children of God, we must know our Father. That should make us capable of loving in the same way He teaches us to love. Follow His example and love as He loves us. If you want to know how is the kind of love that God expects, follow the instructions in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7:  Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. God bless you.

Loving the World or God

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

1 John 2:15-17

You cannot be on the fence, especially when there are conflicting positions between the two sides. The things of the world are totally opposed to the things of God. If we are attracted by the things of the world, it is time for us to analyze ourselves and evaluate our relationship with God. Most likely to be the case that our love for God has waned because we love the world more than Him as 1st John 15:17 says: If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

Between God and the world there are opposing positions. Says James 4:4: Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Means, as James says, be a friend of the world is become the enemy of God. So loving the things of the world is to be friends with him. Therefore, again it confirms that it cannot be with both God and the world.

In 1 John 3:1 says: Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. The world does not know God and does not know us, who are His children. That’s why people who are in the world look at Christians as if they were aliens. And somehow they have a point that God’s children are citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven, which is not of this world.

The apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:12: Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. Not having the spirit of the world but God, it is quite clear that there is no way in to agree the world being with God. This is another biblical assertion of the opposition between the things of God and the world.

Another proof that the things of God and the world are opposite is found in 2 Corinthians 7:10: For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. To repent of our sins we feel sadness for having failed God; but the sadness leads to the subsequent joy of being forgiven and have eternal life. Instead, the sadness in the world equals death.

The main reason for antagonism between God and the things of the world gives 1 John 5:19: We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. Now that you know this, do you still love the things of the world? Already you see why a friend of the world is an enemy of God? We are either with God or with the devil that dominates the world. It’s time to make the decision and not live between two stools. God bless you.

How Do I Become a Child of God?

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

John 1:12-13

There is a false belief that every human being is a son or daughter of God. The Bible is very clear on this and sets the condition required to become children of the Most High. We are his workmanship, created from His hands and His intention is to have with us a relationship in which He is the Father and we are His children. However, the spiritual relationship with God is not acquired at birth or inherited from our biological parents.

In John 1:12-13 clearly states that the right to become children of God is obtained when we receive the Word made flesh, the only begotten of the Father. So the first step we must take to adoption as children is receiving Jesus Christ. The Bible affirms in Ephesians 1:5: having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will. And again in Galatians 3:26: For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

The children of God are led by His Spirit, as Romans 8:14 says: For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Being led by the Spirit of God means not live according to the flesh, but living in the spirit. Romans 8:16 continues:  The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Once we receive Jesus Christ into our hearts, we become temples of the Holy Spirit, who guides us and reassures us as children of God.

Philippians 2:15 says the characteristics of the children of God: that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world. As children of God we are called to be the light of the world and the salt of the Earth. We have to make a difference and not get carried away by the current or echo the things that displease God.

Being a child of God is an undeserved privilege. Only the love of God allows us to be part of His family. It’s not about what we can do, but what He has already done. In 1 John 3:1-2 we read: Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

This manifestation of the sons of God that Paul speaks in Romans 8:19-21:  For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. God bless you.

Heirs of God

But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”  Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Galatians 4:4-7

The dictionary defines heritage as the right to inherit a person has by law or by will. A second definition is the set of properties, money and assets as well as rights, legally received from a person when he or she dies. Third, inheritance is the process by which a number of characteristics are transmitted from parents to children through genes. Finally, heritage is also the set of ideas or features get from a previous circumstance or person.

As stated by the apostle Paul in his letter to the Galatians, God sent His Son to redeem mankind which was irretrievably lost by sin. The law, i.e. the Commandments, tell us very clearly how far we meet God’s standard and our inability to save ourselves by our own means. Redemption comes only by the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary and to receive Him into our hearts, we acquired the status of children of God because then we are adopted by God.

As children of God we have the right to be his heirs through Christ. What are we going to inherit God? Says Psalm 2:8: Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession. Our Heavenly Father urges us to ask the nations as inheritance and be able to expand His Kingdom on Earth to the ends. Therefore, we ask that heritage and claim every nation for Christ because they are part of the heritage that our Heavenly Father wants to give us.

Our heritage also involves the transmission of the characteristics of our Father for us. These characteristics come to us through the spiritual genes that are transmitted to us through His Spirit. By becoming a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), the characteristics of our Father be in us as the fruit of the Spirit: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law (Galatians 5:22-23).

The last definition of inheritance refers to the set of ideas or features get from a previous circumstance or person. What person precedes us? What features we who precedes us? Romans 8:29 gives us the answer to the first question: For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. The answer to the second question is given Ephesians 5:2: And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. God bless you.
