God’s Standard

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Matthew 7:21-23

After hearing the words of Jesus in Matthew 7:21-23 anyone would stop to think. How can we have Jesus and not enter the kingdom of heaven? Is it possible to perform miracles, wonders and signs in the name of Jesus and be rejected by Him on the Day of Judgment? But the Lord says that everything that happens to some. That means that not all His servants are going to pass the test. God’s standard is much stricter than doing things the best we can, requires them exactly according to His will.

Doing God’s will is the requirement that the Lord put to enter the kingdom of heaven. If we prayed life that God’s will on earth and in heaven is made, then it is assumed that we are interested in doing things that way. Perhaps it is easier said than done and it is difficult to know what the will of our Father is. So we must pray as did the psalmist in Psalm 143:10: Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness.

A prayer like that is going to be answered by God forever. Fortunately for us, we have at hand a reliable source to know the will of God. That source is the Bible, which tells us in Romans 12:2: And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Doing the will of God will never be a burden because His will is good, acceptable and perfect.

We will look at four components of what it means to do God’s will. The first is found in John 6:39: This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. God is keen that any should perish. If you want to do His will, then share with others the good news of salvation because evangelism is to do the will of God.

In 1 Peter 2:15 it is the second component: For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men. When we do well to others we are doing God’s will. The third component is written in 1 Thessalonians 5:18: In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Having a grateful heart is to do the will of God.

The fourth component is 1 Thessalonians 4:3: For this is the will of God, your sanctification. The following verses give a list of things that mean sanctification. All can be summarized to abandon the practice of sin. Paul mentions including fornication and deception. Being Holy God, we as His children are called to be saints and being like this we are doing His will. The standard of God means doing His will as He says in His Word. Therefore, we start from today to share the Gospel, to do well to all, to give thanks for everything and keep us far from sin. Thus we enter the kingdom of heaven. God bless you.

Be Sure to Inherit the Kingdom of God

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10

In 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Paul lists those who will not inherit the Kingdom of God. The list includes the unrighteous, fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, effeminate, homosexuals, thieves, covetous, drunkards, revilers and swindlers. Eleven categories are excluded from the inheritance of the Kingdom of God. And Paul stresses with the word: Do not be deceived, which is a warning to us not mistake denying what he’s telling us. This emphasis of Paul makes it very clear that he is speaking seriously.

The list of 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 begins with the unrighteous. In Romans 3:10-12 we read: There is none righteous, no, not one; there is none who understands; there is none who seeks after God.  They have all turned aside; they have together become unprofitable; there is none who does good, no, not one. That means that no human being is righteous in himself, which makes us all unfair, excluding us from the heavenly inheritance. Righteousness comes by grace through faith.

Adultery is intimate sexual contact between a married person and someone who is not his or her spouse. Fornication is when an intimate intercourse between two unmarried persons occurs. In other words, fornication is sex outside of marriage. Idolatry is undue idol worship, which is a clear violation to the second commandment is written in Exodus 20:4-6. Idolatry is not just worshiping images but put something or someone before God, including our children or parents.

Effeminate is one who loses the characteristics traditionally considered typical of men to adopt generally associated with women. Homosexual is someone holding a sexual relationship with a same sex person. No matter if presidents, congresses or judges legalize these practices, the King of kings, the Supreme Judge does not agree with them and those who carry them out are not welcome in His Kingdom.

The other excluded from the heavenly inheritance include those who take what is not theirs, thieves. No matter the amount of product theft or was embezzling state coffers or dock a driver at a stoplight. Covet is the desire or inordinate desire to possess wealth, property or valuables with the intention to hoard for oneself, beyond the amounts required for basic survival and personal comfort. Also covetous will have no inheritance in heaven.

Drunkards are those that have been passed in the consumption of alcohol; but although Paul does not mention, I do not think that brutalize their minds with drugs other than alcohol pass through innocent. Revilers are those whose vocabulary is prolific in curses. In all languages of the world, the common man of the people is a reviler. Swindle is requesting or taking money or thing of value with deception; give someone less or charge more than right; defraud not deliver what is expected of something. Let’s review the catalog of those bad practices that prevent an heir of the Kingdom of God and, if we find that any of them is part of our life, we stop doing so in order not to lose the inheritance. God bless you.

What Jesus Says About the Commandments

Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:19

For many modern preachers, we are under the dispensation of grace and everything related to the Law it has been canceled. When we read what the Lord says in Matthew 5:19 in light of modern education, we may ask the famous question of Quico, the character of Chavo del Ocho, “What did he mean me?” I think the answer is pretty clear Jesus warns the consequences of breaking and teach breaking the commandments. We know that the law does not lead to salvation; but grace does not give us license to break it.

Jesus’ intention was never to abolish the Law but to enforce itself. Since the Law shows sin, in Matthew 5:19, the Lord is calling to be taught it and not broken. No doubt that if someone does not recognize within his or her impotence to save on their own because of sin, this person will never feel the need to be saved.

It cannot be overlooked to show the Law to unbelievers to make them aware of their sinfulness. It does not severely it constrains the work of evangelizing the lost. The American pastor Walter J. Chandry (1930- ) has understood this very well when he says: “The absence of God’s holy law in modern preaching is probably more responsible factor than any other for the evangelistic impotence of our churches and missions.”

If we are called to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth, it is our duty to stand firm and say biblical truths in the same way that Jesus did. Another American pastor, John MacArthur (1939- ) said: “One of the problems of evangelism today is that Christians are not willing to stand firm face to face with the world and tell the truth of Jesus Christ as they are.”

We cannot preach the gospel gilding the pill to listeners. God has not given us permission to accommodate His Holy Word to the fashions of the moment. Scripture has no expiration date and all of it continues to be valid. The true preacher of the Gospel cannot afford to just share what appears to be politically correct. The American preacher Aiden Wilson Tozer (1897-1963) said: “No we are commanded to diplomacy but as prophets, and our message is nothing more than an ultimatum.”

Wickedness has multiplied on earth and that has resulted in sensitivity to sin be anesthetized. The parameters of the world are increasingly alienated from God. The redefinition of the fundamentals has turned bad into good and good into evil. It is time for the church of Christ to awaken from its slumber and is routed along the path traced the Divine Master. Time is running out and we are responsible to snatch souls to hell. God bless you.

Obedience Opens the Doors of Heaven

Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.

Mateo 7:21

If we analyze what Matthew 7:21 says, one can say that there are people who call upon the name of Jesus and have no place in heaven. So many would say it would be impossible for most attain salvation. The truth is that the kingdom of God is not won with “good works” we do; or being part of a particular church; or to be a servant of God, call pastor, priest, or minister. All that opens the gates of heaven to do the will of God, that is, obey Him.

Many religious leaders have devised complex formulas that supposedly lead to heaven. Many of the religious rules are not ideas of God but rely on human philosophies. Unfortunately, as people take into account what their religious leader teaches that they do not seek Scripture to check that what they hear is according to the Word of God. And it is almost certain that some of these people refer to the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and claims to be following Him. However, if your religious tradition contradicts what is written in the Bible, even in a single point, that religion does not conform to the will of our Heavenly Father. Therefore, who continue to practice these traditions is at risk of not enter the kingdom of heaven. That’s not my own idea; it’s what the Lord Himself said in Matthew 7:21.

God’s will is that no man or woman perish but receive salvation. Our Lord says in Matthew 18:14:  Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish. Therefore, our goal each day should be to do the will of our Father to ensure the salvation of every man or woman who gets in our way. Jesus reiterates in John 6:39:  This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.

Therefore, if we do God’s will and not our own, we must align our thoughts to achieve His goals before our own. And it’s clear that the will of God expressed in His Word is the salvation of all. So, let us try with all our strength every day to share with someone the good news of salvation. That’s a daily goal for each of those who have received eternal life by grace.

Romans 10:14-15 says: How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?  And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!”  We should be diligent in sharing with others the salvific message of Jesus Christ, that, as John 3:16 says, believe in Him should not lose and achieve eternal life. That is the will of our loving Heavenly Father. God bless you.

Our Greatest Treasure

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

Mateo 13:44-46

In His parables Jesus compared the Kingdom of Heaven with a treasure hidden in a field and with a pearl of great price. In both parables, both the man who found the treasure hidden in the field, as the merchant who found the precious pearl, sold everything they owned to acquire each corresponding treasure. What Jesus means to us in these two parables is that whoever finding the Kingdom of God must leave everything behind just to acquire the great treasure of eternal life.

The stories of these two parables of the Lord are not implausible stories that do not have the remotest chance of occurring, but analyzing the history, we realize that many similar stories have occurred. When Europeans first learned of the existence of the American continent, many men left everything they had to come to the New World because they had full conviction that this side of the Atlantic Ocean they would find great treasures.

Today, millions of people are willing to risk his salary to play in one of the biggest lotteries as Poweball, Mega Millions or EuroMillion, because they see a good chance of winning the grand prize of hundreds of millions of dollars or Euros. Many other risk much more than their wages playing in the casinos of Las Vegas, Monaco or Atlantic City. The motivation is the same; everyone wants to possess the great treasure. There are also others who risk gigantic fortunes on the Stock Exchange of New York to acquire the shares of companies whose value could skyrocket soon.

A few years ago emerged an Internet business that captivated millions of people around the world. They promised profits nearby to a 3% interest compounded daily. At that rate, invested capital doubled in a matter of weeks. How many people were able to sell anything to invest in this business, its promoters put as investment ceiling ten thousand dollars. I met some who managed to invest much more than the allowed limit using family or friends, in order to win the maximum. And although there were those who came to make a fortune, at the end the government of the United States confiscated this business for fraud and who won today are being deployed to return the money to distribute among the losers of this fraudulent scheme.

If so many people in the world are able to invest everything they have to pursue earthly treasures that sometimes result in a big fiasco, why not leave everything to reach the Kingdom of heaven? It is written that the heavenly treasures are eternal and non-perishable as earthly, therefore, the Kingdom of God will always be our greatest treasure. God bless you.
